Architecting High-Concurrency POS and Requisition Pipelines in Laravel

How we engineered high-frequency order processing, Kitchen Display synchronization, and recipe-level stock depletion for peak highway restaurant traffic.

High-Throughput Restaurant Operations

In high-volume restaurant environments such as Food Valley on the Comilla Highway, hundreds of orders arrive during lunch and dinner rushes across multiple cashier counters, floor waiter tablets, and takeaway desks.

A standard CRUD application will quickly suffer database lock contention if inventory deductions and order ticket dispatches are executed synchronously in a naive request cycle.

Key Architectural Decisions

  1. Transactional Integrity for Requisitions and Billing:
  2. Using explicit database transactions ensures that financial receipts and itemized kitchen orders never diverge:
  3. ```php
  4. DB::transaction(function () use ($orderData, $items) {
  5. $order = Order::create($orderData);
  6. $order->items()->createMany($items);
  7. InventoryService::deductRecipeIngredients($items);
  8. return $order;
  9. });
  10. ```
  1. Decoupling Ticket Printing and Kitchen Routing:
  2. Sending commands directly to multiple physical thermal network printers over raw sockets synchronously will block web worker threads. Offloading print jobs into dedicated asynchronous queues keeps cashier checkout response times under 150ms.
  1. Granular RBAC with Spatie Permission:
  2. Isolating storekeeper approval from cashier collection avoids fraud and creates a traceable digital paper trail across every order state change.
